About Radius Drums

Kenny- Owner of Radius Drums at the 2024 Music Cty Drum Show

Hi, I’m Kenny.

I’m the founder and builder behind Radius Drums. Every snare you see on this site was handcrafted by me, one drum at a time, in my shop in Port Orchard, Washington.

I don’t cut corners. I don’t mass-produce.

I build drums the way they’re supposed to be built — with care, precision, and a deep respect for the craft.

How Radius Drums Started

I’ve been a drummer for most of my life. Music has always been my outlet, my passion, my escape.

But I’ve also been a woodworker. My dad and grandpa taught me young, and I’ve always loved working with my hands – shaping raw materials into something functional and beautiful.

For years, I built guitars and basses for friends. It was fun, but something felt off. One day it hit me: I’m a drummer. Why am I not building drums?

So in 2016, I grabbed some leftover hardwood flooring and built my first stave snare drum. It was rough. The bearing edges weren’t perfect. The finish was amateur. But it worked. And more importantly, it lit a fire in me.

I’ve been refining my craft ever since.

The first snare I made from reclaimed wood and Pearl hardware.

What Makes Radius Different

Every Drum is Handmade

I handle every step of the process myself:

  • Milling the wood
  • Shaping and gluing the staves
  • Cutting bearing edges
  • Laser engraving custom designs
  • Finishing, assembly, and tuning

There’s no factory. No assembly line. No shortcuts. Just me, the wood, and the tools.

Premium Materials, Every Time

I use high-quality hardwoods like maple, walnut, cherry, mahogany, purpleheart, birch, and beech — each chosen for its unique tonal characteristics and natural beauty.

I pair those woods with top-tier hardware (Trick throw-offs, premium lugs, Evans heads) and finish each drum with multiple protective coats of lacquer.

The result? Drums that sound incredible and last a lifetime.

Laser Engraving That Stands Out

One of the things that sets Radius apart is custom laser engraving. I don’t just slap a logo on a drum and call it custom. I create intricate, full-shell designs — optical illusions, pop culture tributes, memorial pieces, personal artwork — burned directly into the wood.

It’s permanent. It’s unique. And it’s one of the reasons people stop and stare when they see a Radius drum.

The Philosophy

We’re not making just another drum. We’re making your drum.

Every Radius snare is built to reflect the player’s style, sound, and personality. Whether you’re a touring drummer, a studio musician, a hobbyist, or a collector, I take the time to understand what you’re looking for — and then I build it.

This isn’t about churning out inventory. It’s about craftsmanship, artistry, and creating instruments that drummers actually connect with.

Ten years ago, I made a decision that changed my life. I quit drinking.

If I hadn’t, Radius Drums wouldn’t exist. I’d probably be stuck in the same place I was a decade ago — or worse.

Sobriety gave me clarity. It gave me drive. And it gave me the ability to actually follow through on building something meaningful.

Radius Drums isn’t just a business. It’s proof that change is possible. It’s a second chance turned into something I’m proud of.

Every drum I build is a reminder of how far I’ve come — and how much further I’m going.
