Recently, I had the honor of sitting down with Dan Shinder from Drum Talk TV to share a bit of my story, show off some killer Radius snare drums, and talk shop about where things are heading for Radius Drums. We went deep into the heart of what drives this whole thing for me—not just crafting beautiful, high-performance snare drums, but using the art of drum building as a personal lifeline.
Nearly a decade ago, I was in a very different place. I was struggling with alcohol addiction, and it was through building drums—piece by piece, stave by stave—that I found something to anchor me, something constructive to pour myself into. I’m proud to say I’m coming up on 10 years sober, and Radius Drums was born out of that transformation.
During the interview, we also got to spotlight some of the snares I’ve poured that passion into: unique combinations of woods, precise craftsmanship, and a relentless focus on tone, feel, and aesthetic. These drums don’t come off an assembly line—they’re built with intent. And if you caught the end of the interview, you heard the exciting news: Radius is now offering 8-ply shells as part of our lineup. While stave shells will always be at the core of what we do, the 8-ply option opens the door to more consistency for certain builds, a different sonic flavor, and greater flexibility when working on artist series or batch runs.
Big thanks again to Dan for the platform and the great conversation. If you haven’t seen the interview yet, you can check it out below. And if you’re a drummer who’s chasing something unique, whether it’s a signature tone or a story behind your gear that actually means something, Radius Drums is here for you.
